Pres. Weah Constitutes Cabinet Subcommittees, Fulfilling Commitment Made At National Economic Dialogue Conference

Monrovia, Liberia: Barely a week following the successful conclusion of the National Economic Dialogue which proffered a range of recommendations aimed at salvaging the ailing Liberian economy,His Excellency President George Manneh Weah has constituted Cabinet Subcommittees with mandate to act as expeditiously and appropriately as possible on the recommendations.

 

The President has established with immediate effect the Public Finance Mobilization and Management Subcommittee, the Investment and Private Sector Growth Subcommittee, the Unemployment and Skills Development Subcommittee, and the Peace Building and Reconciliation Subcommittee.  

 

The President named the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) to chair the Cabinet Subcommittee on Public Finance Mobilization and Management and to be co-chaired by the Ministry of Commerce.

 

Other members include Ministry of Transport, National Investment Commission, General Services Agency, Ministry of Information, Cultural and Tourism, Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as Land, Mines and Energy. Also included are the Ministries of Labor and Health.

 

The various subcommittees are charged with a specific role to enhance results with Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs charged with the responsibility to coordinate each of them for result-based management.

 

On Investment and Private Sector Growth, President Weah names the National Investment Commission as Chair, while the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning is to Co-Chair.

 

The Ministries of Commerce, Agriculture, Labor, Ministry of Post & Telecommunication, Ministry of Health are members of the Cabinet subcommittee. Others include Ministry of Information, Culture & Tourism Member Tourism, Ministry of Mines and Energy, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs.

 

For the Cabinet subcommittee on Unemployment and Skills Development, the President named the Ministry of Youth & Sports as the Chair and the Ministry of Education as the Co-Chair. The Ministry of Gender, Children & Social Protection, Civil Service Agency (CSA), Ministries of Labor, Information, Culture & Tourism, State for Presidential Affairs are members of the subcommittee.

 

Also, President Weah selected the Ministry of Internal Affairs to chair the Subcommittee on Peace Building and Reconciliation, while the Ministry of Justice is to Co-chair. The Ministries of Education, Commerce, Agriculture, Mines & Energy, and National Defense Member form the membership of the committee. Others are Ministries of Youth and Sports, Labor, State for Presidential Affairs, as well as Information, Culture & Tourism.

 

The Cabinet Sub-committees are importantly mandated to link the NED Resolutions to the Government’s flagship development agenda, Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD) ensure implementation of the President's mandate from the NED, report to the entire cabinet on successes, challenges and way forward, communicate activities and achievements to the public, plan and participate in the Annual National Economic Dialogue (ANED).

 

President Weah requests the Subcommittees to meet every Tuesday and report to the full Cabinet on monthly basis.

 

At the close of the National Economic Dialogue conference last Friday, President Weah assured the participants and the nation at large that efforts put in the discussions and subsequent recommendations of the forum would not go in vain.

 

He told the Conference: “And now, I wish to thank all of you for your participation in this important Conference, especially those of you who traveled from far. I wish to assure you that your efforts and contributions to our National Economic Dialogue will not go in vain. I will ensure that the People of Liberia reap positive benefits from all that you have done here over the past three days.”
