PROGRAMS IN SUPPORT OF HIS EXCELLENCY PRESIDENT GEORGE M. WEAH’S PRO-POOR AGENDA UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE OFFICE OF THE VICE PRESIDENT:

Monrovia, Liberia - The Office of the Vice President in support of the President’s Pro-Poor Agenda endeavors over the next six years to advocate and embark upon programs which place the poor and vulnerable at the center of its activities through the following initiatives. The mandate of the Vice President as enshrined in Article 51 of the Liberia Constitution states:

 

There shall be a Vice President who shall assist the President in the discharge of his functions. The Vice President shall be elected on the same political ticket and shall serve the same term as the President. The Vice President shall be President of the Senate and preside over its deliberations without the right to vote, except in the case of a tie vote. He/she shall attend meetings of the Cabinet and other governmental meetings and shall perform such functions as the President shall delegate or deem appropriate; provided that no powers specifically vested in the President by the provisions of this Constitution shall be delegated to the Vice President”.

  1. ELECTRICITY FOR ALL
    • Operation Light Liberia (providing Solar Lights to Vulnerable Female Heads of households in Rural Communities)

 

  1. GENDER EQUITY
    • Safe Spaces for Vulnerable Girls (To build Dormitories in each of the 15 County Capitals)
    • Special Support for scholarships, training and mentoring for vulnerable girls in the following programs:
      1. The Girls Alliance;
      2. Paramount Young Women;
      3. The Red Cross WIN Project;
      4. The Liberia Rural Women Association;
      5. The Mayo Starfish Foundation.
      6. Keep Liberia (Liberia’s Reading Program)

 

  1. EDUCATIONAL/RECREATIONAL OUTREACH

 

  • The Light Minds Projects (to build 1 Library in each of the 15 County Capitals)
  • Children Play Ground/Park (to be built in each of the 15 County Capitals)

 

  1. CULTURE AND TOURISM
    • Glimpse of Liberia (Advocacy for the Identification and rehabilitation of National Tourism sites in Liberia)

 

  1. PEACE AND RECONCILIATION
    • To advocate and lobby for support for the building of the Liberian War Memorial and Museum of Peace and Reconciliation in collaboration with the Peace Ambassador of Liberia.
