President Weah Inspects Works at 14 Military Hospital Ahead of Armed Forces Day

Monrovia, Liberia - The President of the Republic, H.E. Dr. George Manneh Weah, on Monday, February 10, 2020 inspected the 14 Military Hospital near the Edward Binyah Kesselley Barack in Margibi County, describing the project as a dream come true.

Speaking to reporters following the inspection, President Weah recalled how the decision to construct the Hospital for use by men and women of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) was greeted with mixed reactions and criticisms.

President Weah said the state-of-the-art facility, which is a clear testament of his government’s Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD), will not only serve members of the Armed Forces, but the general public.

Expressing appreciation over the accelerated pace of construction works at the  country’s first-ever military hospital which isalmost completed, the President said the intent is not only to give the country’s military access to advanced medical services but also to cater to the health needs of Liberians particularly those within the vicinity of the facility.

He also said Liberian soldiers serving international peacekeeping duties will have access to special and unhindered medical attention, adding: “Even officials of government will not have to go out of the country for treatment when they are sick.”

President Weah said it was high time that the government invested in the Army to be able to perform their duties.

“Our military personnel are versatile. This entire hospital facility was built by our AFL men and women. Most of the servicemen including doctors and nurses will be soldiers”, the President, lavishing praises on the AFL’s engineering team said.

“The more hospitals we build, the more our people will access wide range of medical facilities and services,” he emphasized.

President Weah personally laid the first block of the medical facility back in March 2018 immediately following a groundbreaking ceremony.

The 14 Military Hospital sits on just 5 of 75 acres allotted. Additionally, a US$21m facility including dormitory, teach and training centers as well as a modern laboratory will be built.

The President’s inspection of works at the facility a day to the observance of the 63rd Armed Forces Day was meant to enable him to have a better appreciation of the status of the project for dedication soon.
