The President of Liberia, H.E. Dr. George Manneh Weah, on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 signed the “Book of Condolence” for fallen Liberian diplomat, Ambassador Mary-ann Fossung.

Leading an array of government officials at the ceremony which took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Foyer, the Liberian Chief Executive also declared three days of national mourning and ordered the flag of Liberian to be flown at half-mast on all public buildings beginning Tuesday March 3 to March 5, 2020.

 

He described the late Ambassador Fossung as a “true and devoted public servant” whose death is a great loss to the nation.

The deceased was Liberia’s Ambassador Plenipotentiary accredited to the Republic of Senegal with oversight for the country’s foreign missions in the republics of the Gambia and Cape Verde.

She was commissioned by President George Weah on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 but died on February 3, 2020, at the Carthagène Hospital in Tunisia after battling with illness.

“We lack words to express how saddened and grief-stricken we all are for the death of one of our devoted emissaries,” the President said, further praising the late Fossung as a dedicated diplomat who worked assiduously to promote Liberia’s foreign policy, deepen bilateral relations and economic cooperation between the governments and peoples of Liberia, Senegal and other nations.

The President noted that Ambassador Fossung served “with utmost probity and distinction, and her passing has created a deep void within our Liberian Foreign Service; for she will truly be missed”, the Liberian Leader noted.”
