President Weah Lauds New French League President - Urges Equal Opportunity for All Players

(Monrovia, Liberia):The President of the Republic, H.E. Dr. George Manneh Weah has extended a message of congratulation to Mr. Vincent Labrune, the recently elected President of the French Professional League (LFP). Labrune is also former president of the French Ligue 1 Club Olympique de Marseille.

President Weah has urged the new head of the French premiere league to continue the exemplary work he carried out in his former role at Olympic de Marselle, "in the spirit of fair play", which he said is the hallmark of the beautiful game of football.

The Liberian Leader admonished Mr. Labrune to work diligently, in partnership with the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), Union of European Football Association (UEFA) and other soccer bodies to stamp racism out of football.

President also asked Labrune to create room for equal opportunity of all players, regardless of their creed or ethnicity.

During his professional soccer career, the Liberian Leader had a brief stint with Olympique de Marseille from 2000 to 2001, the club where Mr. Labrune later served as President in 2011 and 2016.

President Weah believes Mr. Labrune will make a great fit in his new role, in light of the knowledge and experience he's gained over the years of his professional sojourn.

In September, when Labrune assumed the helm of authority at LPF, he cautioned that "what must come first is the greater good of French Football". Reminding sports enthusiasts, he said "we will have great days ahead of us in terms of modernizing French football".
