Monrovia, Liberia - President George Manneh Weah on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 made several rounds in Monrovia and its environs in honor of former Government officials, family members and friends.

Liberians, as their custom is, commemorate the second Wednesday of March each year as National Decoration Day in honor of their dead ones, and President George Manneh Weah was out in the field also paying homage to fallen statesmen and his family members.

President Weah, accompanied by a few officials of government, visited the cemeteries in Thinkers’ Village, Duport Road, Barnersville as well as Gurley and Ashmun Streets where he laid wreaths on the graves of family members and former President William V.S. Tubman.

At the Thinker Village Cemetery, the Liberian President paid homage to one of his closest friends, Coach Pampie and performed similar ritual for the late Papie Solo at the Kaduma Cemetery around the Dry-Rice-Market area near Barnesville. Papie Solo was a member of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) killed during the November 7, 2011 standup with the Liberia Natioanal Police over elections dispute.

At the JCN Howard and Gurley Street Cemeteries, President Weah struggled to hold back his tears as he laid wreaths over the graves of his fallen parents, Ann Weah and William Weah, Sr.

At the grave of former President Tubman on Ashmun Street, the Liberian leader was greeted by grandchildren of the former President.

Addressing reporters later, President Weah described the day as a difficult moment for all Liberians who have lost loved ones.

He, however, encouraged Liberians to take solace in the Lord during this time of reflection, expressing the hope that God would console them.

“What we can do is to be strong and take courage in the lord, believing that our fallen loved ones are in the bosom of Abraham,” he noted.
