(Monrovia, Liberia): The President of the Republic, H.E. Dr. George Manneh Weah, Friday, January 24, 2020 received Letter of Credence from Ms. Lesley Ni Bhriain, Ambassador of the Republic of Ireland at his Foreign Ministry office.

The presentation of Letter of Credence by Ambassador Ni Bhrian, who is resident in Freetown, Sierra Leone, followed dozens of ambassadors who in succession performed similar diplomatic requirements on behalf of their Heads of state and governments during the past two days.

Receiving the Letter, President Weah extolled the Irish Envoy on her assignment to Liberia and expressed the hope that the Ambassador Bhriain’s tenure here will see improved relations between Liberia and her country.

“I want to thank the government and the people of the Republic of Ireland for the continuous support to Liberia,” the President asserted. “It is my prayer that the diplomatic relations existing between our countries will be beneficiary to our two countries.”

The President also expressed the hope that Liberia and Ireland will continue to build on the already existing diplomatic ties, acknowledging that Liberia has immensely benefited from Ireland’s support to the peace process in Liberia.

He said Liberia remains grateful to Ireland for making significant contributions to Liberia’s peace process.  

For her part, Ambassador Ni Bhriain recounted Ireland’s role in the peace process, including contributing peacekeepers to Liberia.

She said her country was ready to strengthen the diplomatic ties with Liberia by lending support to the country’s development programs.

Ireland established its bilateral relations with Liberia in 2004. Since then, it has established itself as one of Liberia’s strategic development partners.
