Monrovia, Liberia - The management of the ‘My Brother’s Keeper Orphanage’ in Careyburg, lower Montserrado County, has commended First Lady Clar Marie Weah for rehabilitating facilities of the institution.

The Orphanage’s proprietor, Rev. Ralph Gelegon, said his organization was wholeheartedly grateful to the President’s wife for transforming the orphanage into a better place for the children.

Rev. Gelegon made the statement Tuesday, February 5, 2019, when the First Lady briefly toured the orphanage’s facilities to inspect the level of work done at the Orphanage.

“This orphanage was in a terrible state of disrepair when you came in and salvaged it. You took changed the broken facilities and brought them to an appreciable,” he said. “Today, we can say proudly and loudly that we are happy, the children are happy for this great work, and we are proud of you.”

Upon arrival at the orphanage, Mrs. Weah was greeted with the melodious voices of the orphans, singing religious songs of praises to God in demonstration of their gratitude to the First Lady.

In a short prayer in honor of the President George Manneh Weah’s wife, Rev. Gelegon, who was visibly shedding tears of joy, described the First Lady’s intervention as a divine favor upon them.

“We are not the only orphanage in this country. We are not the only children that you God could favor,” the Reverend said. “But the Almighty God used you, His daughter, to come to our aide. You are always concerned about the less fortunate.”

He prayed for God’s abundant blessing and divine grace upon the First Lady.

In response, Mrs. Weah appreciated the orphanage’s gratitude to her and expressed satisfaction over the level of work done by the contractors to improve the living condition of the orphans.

Mrs. Weah assured the kids of her commitment to ensure their wellbeing at all times.

“I will try my best to make sure you all are well taken care of. As long as I am here as your First Lady and mother, I will always look out for you,” the First Lady said as the orphans applauded her.

The Liberian First Lady also cautioned the orphans to take their education seriously and lead a respectful life if they must succeed and assist other less fortunate people.

She told the kids further: “Remember, it’s about growing. It’s about respecting your caretakers and being really good young men and women. He is about listening and being respectful.”

“And when you are respectful,” she continued, “good things will happen for you.”

Dressed in sky-blue T-shirts bearing the official portrait of the First Lady, the extremely excited kids continued to show their gratitude through melodious Christian worship songs to the amazement of Mrs. Weah and entourage.

The renovation of the orphanage, initiated by the First Lady, included re-roofing the entire facility, installing tiles, commodes and ceilings.

Wiring and running of pipes for electricity and water was done as well as painting the entire facilities, among others.

My Brother’s Keeper Orphanage hosts about 60 orphans and wayward kids.

The First Lady also gives regular food and non-food supplies to My Brother’s Keeper on a monthly basis, in addition to the renovation of the orphanage.
