Monrovia, Liberia:  Liberian President, Dr. George Manneh Weah, has urged Muslims to think positively and pray for Liberia as his government is working to create an environment that encourages investors for the good of the country and people.

Dr. Weah specifically called on Muslims who returned from the Holy City of Mecca, in Saudi Arabia, from the just ended Hajj to lead the charge of praying for peace and stability of the nation.
The Liberian leader also reminded the pilgrims that going to the Hajj is not a right but a privilege they need to make maximum use of, in terms of thinking about Liberia, if selected. “It is my responsibility to see all Liberians work and live a better life in Liberia; so what you have done by praying for the nation is a great thing and you will be remembered,” the President said.
President Weah spoke Wednesday, September 12, 2018 during a special program marking the safe return of Liberian Pilgrims from the Holy City of Mecca, Saudi Arabia at the Monrovia City Hall.

He described Imams as important people who need to be in the forefront of putting Liberia First in what they do, stressing: “We as a government, will make sure to do ours by realizing that it is only the country we have and need to protect and promote.”

Dr. Weah admonished Liberian Muslims to be people-centered by taking all Liberians as equals, instead of taking only to fellow Muslims.
In remarks, Sheik Abubakai M.D. Sumawuro, the Grand Mufti of Liberia, thanked President for  Weah the gesture he continues to show toward Muslims and wished him God’s continued blessings as he seeks the advancement of the country though his Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD).

Sheik Sumawuro said the Muslim Community was proud of President George Manneh Weah and his government for sending about 230 Pilgrims to the Hajj, and added it was the first time a sitting government has been able to sponsor about 230 Muslim brothers and sisters to attend the Hajj.

He informed President Weah that the trip was successful and they used their stay to meet with a number of high-profiled Imams whom they pleaded with to consider Liberia in their endeavors.

The special program was graced by Hon. Gbezohngar M. Findley, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Varney Sirleaf, Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. Jefferson T. Koijee, City Mayor of Monrovia, as well as other senior government officials.
