Monrovia, Liberia: First Lady Clar M. Weah returned home Wednesday from an official trip to the People’s Republic of China with assurance of more support to her humanitarian initiatives in Liberia.

 

According to a release from the Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Weah described the trip as successful and rewarding, not only for the disadvantaged Liberians but also for the entire country.

The release quotes the First Lady as saying, her discussions with a number of top Chinese companies, philanthropists and a University among others yielded huge commitment of support for the Clar Hope Foundation.

 

During her trip to China, Mrs. Weah held discussions with the leadership of Henan Province, the Vice Governor, Mr. He Jinping along with several manufacturing companies and a University.

They include Zhengzhou Yutong Bus Company, ICT company- Huawei, Henan Ruimei Hair Products Co. Ltd., which runs a wig factory, the Power China Henan Engineering Co., Ltd and the South-South Cooperation and Development School at Peking University among others.

 

Ambassador Clar Weah intimated during her various discussions that her goal through the “Clar Hope Foundation”, is to better the living conditions of both urban and rural women by providing them economic empowerment through agriculture, as well as rehabilitate, educate and train wayward children and young people.

 

She also disclosed plans to build a “City of Hope”, which will consist of a home for disadvantaged children, a rehabilitation center for street girls, a school, shelters for orphans and a feeding program for the elderly.

 

The release says that various groups welcomed Mrs. Weah’s humanitarian initiatives and assured commitment to work with her Foundation in realizing her dream for Liberia.

As a result of the trip, assessment teams from China are expected in the country shortly to explore possibilities for starting some of the First Lady’s priority projects. 

 

Mrs. Weah said such initiatives will help improve the living standards of the disadvantaged section of the population, provide jobs, educational opportunities for the youth including street girls and economic empowerment to women among others.

 

The Liberian First Lady expressed delight that with such support, she was confident of realizing her dream of lifting underprivileged Liberians into prosperity in support of the government’s Pro-Poor Agenda.
