President Weah’s Intervention Resolves Cuttington University’s Crisis
Monrovia, Liberia: Students of the Cuttington University in Suakoko, Bong County have resolved to return to classes on Thursday, May 31, 2018.
This brings to an end weeks of impasse that hindered academic activities at the Episcopal-run University.
The resolution of the crises is as a result of the intervention of President George Weah. The Liberian leader recently mandated the Ministries of Justice and Education to intervene immediately to resolve the problem.
Both faculty members and students have been agitating against the administration of Dr. Herman B. Browne, thus plunging the University into chaos.
Students of the faith-based University have accordingly agreed to return to classes immediately, while Dr. Herman Browne remains suspended for time indefinite following investigation. Meanwhile, Dr. James Tamba has been appointed as acting President.
About two days ago, President Weah mandated the Ministers of Justice and Education along with Bishop Jonathan B. B. Hart, Chairman and members of the Board of Trustees of Cuttington University to resolve the impasse.
The mandate was informed by a “go-slow” action by the Faculty Association of Cuttington Universityon May 14, 2018, which was suspended on May 17, 2018 due to intervention from the Board of Trustees.
The Faculty Association has been requesting that the President of the University, Dr. Herman Browne resign following complaints of alleged poor management of the University.
