President Weah Takes UNGA Podium Wednesday with Focus on Climate Change, World Affairs, PAPD

(New York, September 24, 2019)His Excellency Dr. George Manneh Weah, President of the Republic of Liberia, is in New York to join other World Leaders at the Seventh-fourth Session of the United Nations General Assembly (74th UNGA), convening at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the United States of America.

 

President Weah is expected to address the High-Level General Debate of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) during its Fifth (5th) Plenary Session on Wednesday, September 25, 2019, which begins at 9:00 A.M local eastern time.

 

Dr. Weah is among 20 world leaders scheduled to address the morning session (9:00am – 2:45 PM local time) of the UNGA on Wednesday, September 25, 2019.

 

The Liberian Leader's address will focus on a range of issues; including general world affairs, climate change, human rights and the cardinal pillars of President Weah's poverty eradication program, as captured in the Government's National Development Plan-- The Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD).

 

The High-Level General Debate of the United Nations General Assembly opened on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, and is part of the High-Level Week of the Seventy-fourth Session of the UNGA (74th UNGA). It will be characterized by speeches by Heads of State and Governments, as well as other High-Level Government Representatives from the One Hundred Ninety-three (193) Member States of the United Nations.

 

This Year’s General Assembly is being held under the theme: “Galvanizing Multilateral Efforts for Poverty Eradication, Quality Education, Climate Action and Inclusion".

 

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) is one of the six main organs of the United Nations, the only one in which all Member States have equal representation: one nation, one vote. All 193 Member States of the United Nations are represented in this unique forum to discuss and work together on international issues covered by the UN Charter; such as development, peace and security, and international law. 

 

This year’s High-Level week of the United Nations General Assembly began on Monday, September 23, 2019, and will continue till Monday, September 30, 2019.
