President Weah Departs for Freetown today to Attend Sierra Leone's Independence Activities

(Monrovia, Liberia):President Dr. George Manneh Weah left the country early Tuesday morning, April 27, 2021, for Freetown to attend the 60th Independence Day celebrations of the Republic of Sierra Leone.

 

Dr. Weah is joining other West African and world leaders in the Sierra Leonean capital Freetown to witness and participate in activities commemorating that West African state's independence.

 

While away, the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs,   Hon. Nathaniel F. McGill, will act as chair of the cabinet in consultation with the Vice President, Madam Jewel Howard Taylor, and in phone contact with the President of Liberia.

 

The Liberian Chief Executive is expected back home later today, April 27, 2021.

 

Sierra Leone gained its independence from the United Kingdom on April 27, 1961.
