President Weah Arrives in Ouagadougou Faso For ECOWAS Summit
Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso:The President of the Republic, Dr. George Manneh Weah, has arrived in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso to attend the Extraordinary Summit of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African State (ECOWAS).
President Weah, who arrived on Friday, September 13, 2019, is joining other West African and G5 Sahel Leaders at the summit to discuss and find solution to increasing waves of terrorism in the Region.
Gravely concerned about the unprecedented phenomenon of terrorism in the Region, the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS in Yamoussoukro on 28 February 2013 adopted the ECOWAS strategy on the fight against terrorism.
ECOWAS early warning and response network estimates 27,000 deaths and three million displaced credited to subversive activities of Boko Haram alone. It also reported new terrorist groups including West African Province of the Islamic State (WAPIS), Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (GSIM), the Islamic State in the Grand Sahel (EIGS) and Ansural Islam in the Sahel which have expanded their activities according to United Nations sources.
The summit kicks off Saturday, September 14, 2019 at the Ouaga 2000 Conference Hall.
President Weah was met on arrival at the Ouagadougou International Airport by the President of Burkina Faso, H.E Roch Marc Christian Kabore.
