(Monrovia, Liberia): The President of the Republic, H.E. Dr. George Manneh Weah, has called on the young people of Liberia to strive for peace and harmony by remaining tolerant and patriotic in their dealings.

He said the youth, who are the future leaders of the country, needed to conduct themselves in ways that guarantee stability and peace that they can inherit for unhindered progress and development.

Speaking Sunday, October 4, 2020 during a regular worship service at the Forky Kloh Jlaleh Family Church, the President called on the country’s young people to be aware of devious schemes by some unscrupulous politicians to indoctrinate youth with extremist ideals for selfish reasons.

He alerted citizens, mainly young people, on the danger of violence and divisive politics orchestrated by some politicians, stating that this dampens the prospect for development and progress and undermines the future for youth.

“Liberians need to be careful so that the peace of today is not jeopardized and we are again referred to refugees and brutes,” the Liberian Leader said.

President Weah emphasized the importance of peace to development, noting that without peace there can be no progress in any society.

He therefore urged citizens particularly the youthful population, to change their mindset towards the country, knowing that “Liberia is the only country we have and must therefore preserve.”

He said young people must strive for quality education as one of the best ways they can change their attitudes and think positively and patriotically about their nation.

“Only people with like minds can change the narratives of this country,” he added: “Together we can make peace today, peace tomorrow, and peace forever. Remember, we are ‘one nation indivisible with liberty for all.’”
