Monrovia, Liberia - First Lady, Ambassador Clar M. Weah is commending Liberian Muslims for keeping Liberia in their prayers as they observe the Holy Month of Ramandam.

First Lady Weah said the Muslims’ decision to pray for the success of the President George M. Weah led-government, the sustenance of peace, stability, economic growth and development is in the right direction.

Mrs. Weah made the comment through her Chief of Office Staff, Gaelle Medeim, Tuesday, June 12, 2018 when she donated a huge consignment of food to several mosques in Monrovia and its surroundings.

Mrs. Medeim, leading a team of her staffers along with the Head of the Presidents Special Projects, Madam Makenneh Keita, distributed two-hundred bags of 50kg-bags of rice and a consignment of 25 cartoons of fish.

Handing over the food to at least five mosques on separate occasions on behalf of the First Lady, Mrs. Medeim said the donation was her Boss’ way of identifying with the Liberian Muslim Community.

“A mother’s first worry is to have the children fed,” said Madam Medeim. “…and she couldn’t let this period of spiritual growth go by without showing you that she cares about you.”

Madam Medeim said the gesture demonstrated that the First Lady did not only have them at heart but that she also appreciates their support.

According to her, the food will enable them end their month long fast and prayer in a grand style.

The beneficiaries include the Benson Street, Heritage, Black Jina, Newport Street and 17^th Street Mosques in Monrovia and Paynesville respectively.

Receiving their respective share of the First Lady’s gift, the various mosques commended Mrs. Clar Weah for her the kind gesture.

Speaking on behalf of the Benson Street Mosque, the Chairman of the Council of Muslim Community in Liberia, Mohamed Sheriff, Sr. described the gesture as a surprise.

According to him, it was a surprise because for more than 12 years there has not been such donation by a first lady.

“Since we have been in this country we have seen the President donating; we have seen others donating but we have not seen a First Lady do so,” said Mr. Sheriff.

For his part, Musa Konneh, receiving donation on behalf of the Black Jina Mosque, expressed profound gratitude to the First Lady for the food which he said will be used to break-fast.

Mr. Konneh He said the gesture will go a long way in feeding several persons adding that the Almighty Allah would reward First Lady Weah greatly for such gesture.

The Muslim community also reassured their commitment to work with the first lady and the President of Liberia in their bid to develop Liberia and improve the lives of the citizens.
